fayola!
Despite her misgivings, Fayola travels to the farm and is amazed to find that certain things have changed in the deep south. People interact with her, she discovers her grandmother was well liked by Blacks and whites alike and there’s something else…
Fayola Wilson’s life is rolling along without an awful lot of direction. Her cramped apartment, in New York City, is too small for her and her daughter Grace, and her job as a nurse, while fulfilling in some ways, never seems to earn her enough to get by.
There don’t seem to be a whole lot of options open for Fayola, until she discovers that her grandmother’s farm, the one she had hated visiting as a child, has been left to her in her will as the sole living relative.
There is just one problem Fayola can see. The farm is in Mississippi and from what she can remember about her visit to the state, was that Black people were still definitely regarded as second class citizens and that racism was alive and well.
Despite her misgivings, Fayola travels to the farm and is amazed to find that certain things have changed in the deep south. People interact with her, she discovers her grandmother was well liked by Blacks and whites alike and there’s something else…
Despite herself, Fayola sees that the farm offers her a means of escape from the drudgery of her life and a place to make a fresh start, and she takes the plunge and moves.
But does Fayola have the skills to make the move work? Will her newfound love of Jesus lead to something else? And what dangers await for an unwary city girl?
